The “Idiomas de Felicidad” (Languages of Happiness) project was created in collaboration with INCIDE and 1st-6th-grade students at CEIP Cervantes. Students at Cervantes created six collaborative paintings based on their definitions of happiness. Using the languages spoken by the school community—Spanish, French, Arabic, Ukrainian, Calo, and English—students drew and wrote about what happiness meant to them. Their drawings were combined into six paintings that represent the culture and diversity of the school community.
Step 1: Brainstorming
On 6 sheets of large paper, each with the word happiness in a different language, students drew and wrote what happiness meant to them.
Step 2: Drafting the Design
We then uploaded all the drawings to ProCreate, where we combined all the designs and included the drawings that were repeated the most in the digital draft.
The designs were then drawn onto canvas, and the paints were mixed. We used pre-stretched canvas and acrylic paint. We outlined the shapes in paint, so students knew which colors went where. Students in 1st and 2nd grade painted the canvas. After we finished the painting, we added some details.
Step 3: Painting
